How do I remind people of their primordial roots and of their ties to the Mother Earth?
My investigation strayed from hypothetical, bordering more on reality throughout these surreal times. Forced into a complacency previously yearned for, society is developing the affinity towards nature we lost long ago, as our once desired downtime, transforms into prisons of tedium. The white noise of life took over and we could always hear everything around us but it wasn’t until the distractions stopped that we could once again listen. The pandemic has provided a rare opportunity of time, a chance to reconnect with the things left behind in the midst of our busy lives. Revision is seen in my pieces, as they progressed, my works became more abstracted and interpretive. Direct revision is seen in the Tree Lady: maquette to bigger version. For experimentation I involved and built pieces from plants, used glass, and experimented with different glazes & stains. My process included: research, journal sketches, observing nature, observational drawing, sculpting, glazing, and staining. For synthesis I used natural materials such as clay and plants. I even made Mother Earth out of literal earth.
