I love to bake. When I was given the opportunity to be in AP Art, I wanted to use this opportunity to see if the skills used in baking, specifically cake decorating, could be used in ceramics. It began as making cakes using common baking tools and then evolved into making cakes that included baking ingredients. Some works like the fortune cookies are even made using the same technique as real fortune cookies. Other works like the macarons are more like fun replicas of the real thing. One of my non-food related works is the banana. It is a self-portrait focusing on me as a person adopted from China but raised here in Idaho by a white family. The banana is like me, yellow on the outside, white on the inside. The other separate work is a tribute to my own senior class. Each crane has the name of one senior written on it. Cranes are a symbol of good fortune and success but also symbols of hope and healing. These are the things I wish for the class of 2020.
