Katie Stevens

Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins, civilizations have long spread myths and reports of an unseen world of creatures. I scarcely believed it myself, but after experiencing the culture shock of the widely believed presence of the paranormal during a five-week residency in Savannah, Georgia, I ask how the unseen world of the paranormal slips into both my life, the lives of others, and the mortal world we know. I utilized experimental materials with light and transparency, two traits commonly associated with spirits, to create strong or compelling textures within my pieces, and a surrealist style to show the clashing of the two realms, many morphing pictures taken during my trip into ghoulish experiences.

Other, unrelated works simply explore the application of value and line to real world objects in a simple appreciation of the energy of every-day life.
